I AM A MOVING GRAIN
My life has felt the hand of motion
I’m a cork tossed in the ocean,
like a sand dune
in the desert hourglass.
I am a moving grain
outside the billions that remain,
to be blown away
by winds that say my name.
Each storm that wraps me up inside
its tattered map to be my guide,
and the waves can spray my journey
to a shore where I can hide.
I want no roots to tie me down
these shoes move to another town
I squeeze the sweetest juice from life
while bitter fruit is chewed by clowns.
And my heart beats to the sound
of new ports that can surround me,
and strange oxygen to fill my lungs
that lifts me to the sky.
My one night loves they come and go
each tear I shed is not for show,
my passing story has been written
so again my engines go.
I’m a bird that sings alone
on the branches of its home,
this lonely love song
will always be my own.
INTO THE LONG GRASS
I buried some bones in the backyard.
They cry to me at night while I sleep,
against their soil I cast as a blanket
thrown to keep these skeletons warm.
The light of eternity looks down at me,
its darkness shines, tugging my closed lids
like impatient curtains at a full cinema.
My whole life feature is a movie where
hidden treasures are uncovered despite
the worst intentions of the protagonist.
